Washed Out - Life Of Leisure EP

With summer coming up and spring here, this will be getting some definite play. As another blogger stated, I don't think I could do any better than the brevity and accuracy of the official description:

"Washed out is Ernest Greene, a young guy from Georgia (via South Carolina) who makes bedroom synthpop that sounds blurred and woozily evocative, like someone smeared vasoline all over an early OMD demo tape, then stayed up all night trying to recreate what they heard."

Pretty Lights - Passing By Behind Your Eyes

Pretty Lights is the music moniker of one Derek Vincent Smith. I was recently made aware of him as an artist (I had seen the moniker floating around for the last couple years, and have seen the name listed at a ton of festivals both this summer and last), and I have to say... I am an instant fan!

ALL of his music is available for free download with links on both his website, and his Myspace, but donations are encouraged (and once you hear how sick this cat is, I think you'll want to donate a little coin to the cause as I did).

My roommate described the sound as "DJ Shadow/RJD2 meets The Glitch Mob", and while I wouldn't say EVERYTHING he does sounds like that, it's quite an accurate description. Derek's music is emotive, deep and intelligent electronic music, straddling multiple genres and winning new fans with every listen.

This is the album that has stuck out from the hundred of MB's of downloads available on his site (for me at least), but DEFINITELY check at least this one out, if not all of them. Then, about an hour later when you're thinking how awesome his music is, you should hit that Paypal button and donate a little bit of $ for what you're listening to. :)

Flake Music - When You Land Here It's Time To Return & Spork E.P.

A friend asked me for music by Flake yesterday, so this morning instead of just sending it to her, I decided to post it. Without going into too much detail, this is basically The Shins, before they were The Shins... the one & only full length album (as well as an EP) from Albuquerque's own, Flake Music.

I remember seeing these guys at the Golden West, a few times actually (as well as buying Video Games from Marty Crandall when he worked at some game store in Winrock)... and I can't help but wonder how many Shins fans haven't heard these guys.

Anyways, here's one of the most underrated albums of the 90's (and the only full length from Flake Music), as well as the Spork EP... ENJOY!
